Fair Futures for Young Carers: Young Carers Action Day 2024 theme

The Young Carers Action Day 2024 theme is fair future for young carers which will be focussing on why caring should not being a barrier to learning, earning or being able to get on in life but for many it is.

Young Carers Action Day is an important day in the calendar to create action, influence and raise awareness for young carers and young adult carers. They are a group of people in the UK in desperate need of support especially given soaring caring hours, limited support in education, lack of government support and the cost-of-living crisis.

Carers Trust produces an annual national survey reports on young carers and a big issue that has come out of many recent reports is that young carers unfairly face barriers to achieve life ambitions.

Our 2023 Young Carers' Survey showed, 1 in 3 young carers struggle to balance caring with our education, this can have a big impact on whether they can get on at school, go to university, or get a job or an apprenticeship.

This can limit opportunities for young carers to learn, earn and have a fulfilling life. Policy, practice and investment is needed to give young carers the additional support and flexibility they need to thrive.

In Young Carers Action Day 2024, these important issues will be highlighted to bring out a fairer future.
