Our refreshed Strategy’s objectives and context

The refreshed Strategy was developed in the context of a worsening economy, which placed immense financial pressures on unpaid carers, 48% of whom have had to give up work due to their caring role. Soaring energy bills and living costs have exacerbated these pressures further.

This is why our main objectives in the refreshed Strategy include not stopping until:

  • No carer is pushed into poverty or is financially disadvantaged by their caring role.
  • Every carer has access to a high-quality local carer organisation.
  • All carers, regardless of circumstances or age, are able to enjoy a fulfilling life alongside their caring relationship.

We know we cannot realise these ambitious objectives on our own. That is why one of our key strategic pillars in the refreshed Strategy is Partner for Growth. This underlines our commitment to forming ever closer ties with our Network Partners. Our impact for unpaid carers can only be as great as the collective power of our network.

In addition, over the next three years we will actively seek to collaborate with organisations outside the network that share our values to deliver the best possible support for unpaid carers, and to amplify the social change we seek.

Thank you!

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of those who put a lot of time and effort into helping us shape the document. A key part of the development process included consultation with unpaid carers and Network Partners - whose experiences are at the heart of the Strategy - and Carers Trust staff.
