Jane's story

Jane, 46, from Aberdeen, has been her grandson’s sole carer since he was just ten weeks old.

Now she has cared for him for nearly seven years, with some much-needed support from close family and friends.

She said: “Every day can be challenging with a child who has complex needs. Each day, I must get him dressed, prepare him for school, keep him regulated and calm and avoid the triggers which set off his sensory issues.”

When she does get a break, Jane loves to be close to the sea. She loves the beach, being in nature, outdoors travel, animals and horses in particular, gardening and cooking.

Carers Trust has recently granted Jane the money for  a new hall carpet which she said has been a huge help since she also has health issues which were making it dangerous without adequate flooring in place.

The money for this £300 grant came through a funding partnership between Carers Trust and People’s Postcode Lottery.
