Ibrahim* is 68 and cares for his wife Nadira who has the long-term conditions ankylosing spondylitis and fibromyalgia. Thanks to a Carers Trust grant, Ibrahim was able to buy a new fridge.
Ibrahim cares for his wife 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and does all the household chores including cooking, shopping and washing.
He arranges all Nadira's appointments and accompanies her to them. He also provides emotional support. Ibrahim is himself not well as he has a heart condition.
The couple are on a very low income and any savings have gone towards making life easier for Nadira, including buying her a new electric wheelchair as, with his heart condition, Ibrahim was no longer able to push a manual chair. As a result, they have no savings left.
Ibrahim was extremely worried as their current fridge was on its last legs and he wasn’t sure how he would be able to replace it. The fridge is of vital importance because Nadira’s medication needs to be stored at a consistently low temperature otherwise it degrades.
But with the help of his local Carers Trust Network Partner, Carers Trust was able to award Ibrahim a grant of £200 towards the cost of a new fridge freezer. Not only will this keep Nadira’s medication stored at the correct temperature, but it takes a world of worry off Ibrahim’s shoulders.
