Desmond's story

Desmond  is 53, and a full-time carer for his daughter Yvonne who has asthma, diabetes, seizures and spine problems. The family lives on a very low income with no savings for emergencies. Unfortunately, Desmond contracted Coronavirus last year and it made him so ill that he lost five stone. As a result, all his clothes and shoes no longer fitted properly. Although Desmond has been registered with the local carers centre for the last six years, he has never asked for help until this latest setback when he turned to his Support Worker.

They told us:

The situation is causing him to feel quite low emotionally. He has had a very tough few months and now feels stuck ... Any financial help will benefit him greatly and have a huge positive impact on his emotional wellbeing and day-to-day life.

Thanks to a donation of £200 from players of People’s Postcode Lottery, Desmond was able to buy a new set of clothes and continue caring for his daughter with one less worry.
