Bhavna's Story

Bhavna* is 16 years old and helps her Mum to care for her younger brother who has Autism. She recently moved to a small town as her brother couldn’t cope with living in a busy city. She misses her friends who now live far away and struggles with the demands of her caring role.

Life can be unpredictable and challenging as her brother regularly lashes out at Bhavna and her Mum, and she doesn’t get much of a break at home. Bhavna is home schooled and her laptop recently broke, leaving her feeling even more isolated and unable to do her studies. She’s been accepted to go to college and will need a working laptop for studying.

A grant of £300 was awarded to Bhavna for a new laptop. Having her own laptop will help her to be flexible with doing course work at home so she can be available to care for her brother. She’ll also be able to join online groups run by her local carers’ service to help her make new friends, so she’ll feel less isolated.
