Being there matters to young carers. But it comes at a cost. Left to cope alone, caring can become overwhelming, causing burnout, anxiety and isolation.
Without support, too many children and young people risk missing out on their childhoods, and their futures. Help us be there for them.
Young carers often put caring for their loved ones before their own needs and futures. And we know there are 50,000 young carers spending 50 hours every week caring for a family member.
As children and young people across the country went back to schools and colleges last week, we know that brings added challenges for young carers.
Two children in every class are missing from school for at least one month every year because they are carers.
This can’t go on. No child or young person should be left alone to care without support. It’s time to stand up with young carers against a system that continues, time and time again, to let them down.
With your support, Carers Trust and our network of carer organisations across the UK, can be there for young carers when it matters. To help young carers stop feeling overwhelmed, lonely and burnt out.
Will you be there to help support young carers when it matters most?
Brooke is a young carer. She is always there for her family. Help us be there for her.
Brooke, a 13-year-old young carer from Scotland, said signing up to her local carer centre was "the best decision of my life". In just one year, Brooke went from suffering from anxiety and being bullied at school to “relaxing more and more and just becoming a much happier person”.
