This resource details Carers Trust Scotland’s work with young and young adult carers and the services that support them during the pandemic.
2020 Vision: Hear Me, See Me, Support Me and don’t Forget Me.
The results of a Carers Trust Scotland survey into the impact of Coronavirus on young carers aged 12 to 17 and young adult carers aged 18 to 25 was published in July 2020. They pointed to a steep decline in the mental health and wellbeing of thousands of young people across Scotland who provide unpaid care at home for family members or friends.
The Student Carer Experience in Scotland
The research illuminates the lived experiences of student carers across Scotland’s colleges and universities, including the perspectives of those supporting them. Through an investigation of the challenges student carers face, and the barriers to accessing support, the research makes recommendations and suggestions to improve the studying experience for carers.

This Young Carers in Schools resource helps school staff understand the challenges that young carers are experiencing during the COVID-19 crisis and offers practical guidance on how to support young carers. Carers Trust Scotland is part of an Erasmus+ funded Together: A Whole Family Approach for Young Carers project, with partners based in Belgium, Germany, Greece and Italy. The project aims to raise awareness of young carers and to support them and their families.
Working With Further and Higher Education Providers: Top Tips
The Going Further, Going Higher project worked with four Carers Trust Network Partners across England to empower young adult carers with the skills and confidence to approach their colleges and universities to ask for recognition and support. This resource provides top tips when training young adult carer ambassadors and engaging with education providers.

A resource for local authorities working with schools to identify and support young carers. It sets out how using the Young Carers in Schools programme supports local authorities to ensure they fulfil their statutory duties as set out in the Children and Families Act 2014 and the Care Act 2014.
