This resource is primarily aimed to be a guide for local government. The Children and Families Act 2014 places a duty on local authorities to take ‘reasonable steps’ to identify young carers in their area who have support needs. This resource sets out these duties and shows how local government can work with education, health and social care partners to take the steps necessary to increase identification of young carers.

This Young Carers in Schools resource helps school staff understand the challenges that young carers are experiencing during the COVID-19 crisis and offers practical guidance on how to support young carers. It is a pack which also includes a Staff Briefing for schools and a Top Tips written by young carers.

Carers Trust developed this report and resources as part of the Health and Wellbeing Alliance, alongside Carers UK. Carers Trust Scotland is part of an Erasmus+ funded Together: A Whole Family Approach for Young Carers project, with partners based in Belgium, Germany, Greece and Italy. The project aims to raise awareness of young carers and to support them and their families.

The Going Further, Going Higher project worked with four Carers Trust Network Partners across England to empower young adult carers with the skills and confidence to approach their colleges and universities to ask for recognition and support. This resource provides top tips when training young adult carer ambassadors and engaging with education providers.
Going Higher: A Guide for Carers to Universities in Wales
This publication has been developed by Carers Trust Wales in partnership with all Reaching Wider partnerships, universities in Wales and UCAS. The Triangle of Care for Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services A Guide for Mental Health Professionals
Carers Trust has developed the Triangle of Care for Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services (CYP MHS) as a supplementary guide to complement the Triangle of Care (Carers Trust, 2013) and to help mental health professionals in CYP MHS to be better able to identify, understand and support carers.
Triangle of Care Membership Scheme in England
The Triangle of Care membership scheme was developed by Carers Trust and is aimed at mental health providers. The Triangle of Care describes a therapeutic relationship between the patient, staff member and carer that promotes safety, supports communication and sustains wellbeing.
