Carer Contingency Campaign Pack: Supporting Carers and Strengthening Local Care Systems

Published: 2024

As part of the Health and Wellbeing Alliance, the Carers Partnership worked with NHS England to create this Carer Contingency Campaign Pack. It is designed to help local carer organisations collaborate with local partners to implement Carer Contingency Plans in their communities.

Carer Contingency Plans benefit carers, those with care needs, and the wider system. They provide reassurance to carers that plans are in place in case they are unable to provide their usual care.

People receiving care can feel confident that, should their carer be unavailable, arrangements aligned with their preferences are in place. For the system as a whole, Carer Contingency Plans help prevent carer burnout and breakdowns as well as reduce the risk of expensive emergency social care interventions.

The Carer Contingency Plan Campaign Pack offers local carer organisations and others supporting carers with:

  • Campaign materials to encourage carers to develop a Carer Contingency Plan
  • Resources to work with local partners to prioritise Carer Contingency Plans in the community
  • Access to examples of good practices from across the country on developing Carer Contingency Plans
  • Tools to create training materials for working with local partners on Carer Contingency Plan development
  • Guidance on sharing information about Carer Contingency Plans
  • Insights into the legal and policy landscape

We encourage local carer organisations and others supporting carers to use this pack to promote their existing offers - or to work with partners to establish Carer Contingency Plans. These plans can make a significant difference to carers and benefit the local health and social care system as a whole.
