Young Carer Voice: Consultation Event
In 2021, Carers Trust Scotland hosted an online Young Carer Voice: Consultation Event as part of the Scottish Young Carers Festival. This event provided a platform for young carers to share their views on a range of topics, take part in meaningful consultation in an interactive way and speak directly with decision makers. This report and poster summarises issues raised by young carers, action taken by Carers Trust Scotland and how decision makers can support young carers in their role.
Key points
- 50 young carers across 30 young carer services attended this event, sharing their views on education, mental health, respite, rural voice and young carers’ rights.
- Carers Trust Scotland has shared this information with key decision makers and organisations who attended our event, raising awareness of the experiences of young carers and calling on decision makers to take action in their role. They are invited to act on the priority areas identified in the report and reflect on their own personal goal or pledge in their role to help all young carers feel supported.
- The 2021 Media Ambassadors film is also included in this report. A short film created by young carers that explores topics important to them, such as respite, education, and loneliness.
