Buses

You may be able to travel for free, or pay a reduced fare, if you travel with the person you care for.  

The person you travel with will need to have a Disabled Person’s Bus Pass, or a National Entitlement Card if they live in Scotland.

Disabled person’s bus pass (England only)

The person you care for may be able to apply for a disabled person’s bus pass. You can also apply for one if you are disabled. 

A disabled person's pass lets the holder (the person who's name is on it) travel for free off peak on buses.

How to apply:

Contact your local council to apply for a disabled person’s bus pass. 

Also ask your local council what other discounts are available.

Older person's bus pass (England)

You, or the person you care for, can get a bus pass for free travel when you reach female State Pension age, whether you are a man or a woman.

Free bus passes in Wales for people who are disabled or 60 or over

People who live in Wales and are aged 60 or over or disabled may be entitled to free travel within Wales.

National Entitlement Cards (Scotland only)

In Scotland, people who are over 60 or have a disability, could be eligible for free bus travel to get around Scotland and the local area.

How to apply:

Carers travel free 

If the person you care for has a National Entitlement Card and they need your help when they travel by bus then you will be able to travel with them for free. 

Free bus passes in Northern Ireland

People who are 60 or over, or have a disability, may be entitled to concessionary travel on bus journeys within Northern Ireland.
