There are free online courses if you care for someone with dementia. They can help you cope with caring, find out more about dementia, and prepare for the future.

There are also many other free online courses for carers which are suitable for all carers (regardless of the illness or condition of the person you care for). 

Understanding dementia

Future Learn have a number of free online courses where you can explore dementia information, research and best practice.

The Dementia Care: Staying Connected and Living Well course designed for carers to help you keep in touch with others, manage stress at home and diffuse difficult situations.

Dementia e-learning course from SCIE

The Social Care Institute for Excellence has developed seven e-learning modules which are aimed at anyone who comes into contact with people with dementia. The learning material covers a general introduction to the disease and the experience of living with dementia.

The module topics are:

  • What it is and what it isn’t
  • Living with dementia
  • What causes dementia
  • Diagnosis and who can help
  • Common difficulties and how to help
  • The emotional impact of dementia
  • Positive communication

The Dementia e-learning course is free for everyone via the Social Care Institute for Excellence website. Please note that this course has not been updated recently but it still contains a lot of information that you might find useful to help you with caring.
