Carers Trust, the UK’s largest charity for unpaid carers, has today announced that it has received £400,000 from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

This award will transform the support carers receive, providing grants to individual carers and matching donations to kick-start vital projects, amongst other work.

Giles Meyer, Carers Trust CEO, said:

“We are thrilled to be one of the newest charities supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Three in five of us will become carers and anyone can become a carer at any point in their lives. It’s therefore vital that help and support are available when it is most needed.

“Some of the money raised by players will provide unpaid carers with short breaks, helping them to receive some much-needed time-out from their demanding, caring role.”

To celebrate the funding, carers from Care for Carers in Edinburgh were joined by staff from People’s Postcode Lottery at Dynamic Earth where they received a cheque for £400,000 for the first year of funding and said thank you to the players for their support.

Clara Govier, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “We are so pleased that players will be helping to support the many carers working tirelessly in our communities. We look forward to working with Carers Trust in the coming months.”
