Responding to the Chancellor's Spring Budget 2017, Gail Scott-Spicer, CEO of Carers Trust, said:

"The Chancellor forgot the seven million unpaid carers who are caring around the clock, plus the local services that support them.

"They now face the wait to see if the £2bn funding for social care will provide the help that carers desperately need. Given it is both over three years, and the rising demand, it is unlikely to close the funding gap.

"The evidence shows that carers' health, wellbeing and employment are at risk. We need to make sure pressure is kept up until carers are consistently and properly supported.

"We can't keep having a hotchpotch approach to supporting the UK's carers. Carers give their time for free, so it's vital they are supported in return."
