Carers Trust Scotland broadly supports the Scottish Government’s proposals to legislate for carers and we look forward to further consultation and discussion when the Bill is introduced to the Scottish Parliament.

We believe that it is vital to ensure that the proposals are ‘carer-proofed’ to ensure that they do not have unintended impacts on carers or on our Network Partners. For example, the proposed duty to provide carers with information and advice may lead to an increase in referrals to Network Partners that they are unable to cope with long-term without extra resources. Continued consultation with carers and Network Partners as the Bill progresses will help to ensure that these unintended consequences are tackled, and we will continue to inform carers and Network Partners about the Bill’s progression.
