Thanks to customers of John Lewis Cardiff, Carers Trust Wales has been awarded £1,178 from the John Lewis Community Matters fund.

Fundraising success

Carers Trust Wales was selected as one of the recipients of the fund in August, and John Lewis customers had the opportunity to use tokens to vote between August - October for Carers Trust Wales to receive support.

Fundraising Manager for Carers Trust Wales, Nerys Sales, said:

"We are delighted to have received £1,178 from the Community Matters scheme. The money will go towards the work we do in supporting young adult carers through our Going Higher Wales project."

There are 370,000 carers in Wales, caring unpaid for a friend or family member who would not be able to cope without their support.

Carers Trust research found that young adult carers are four times more likely to drop out of higher education due to the stresses of balancing their education with their caring role.

Going Higher Wales

The Going Higher Wales project is working to change that statistic, by ensuring universities across Wales implement 'carer-friendly' policies to support carers throughout their education.

The money donated by John Lewis Community Fund will help to extend the project to reach more young adult carers across Wales.
