Members of the public are being offered a unique opportunity to be painted into history by Scottish artist, Chris Rutterford. Chris is creating a 30 x 15 foot mural of the Battle of Bannockburn as part of the 700th anniversary events. He will paint the faces of successful auction bidders into the mural for an event with Carers Trust Scotland and Glasgow Warriors, which is taking place at Scotstoun Stadium on 26 March. The mural will be produced live at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh as part of a mini festival in June. It will eventually be hung in a prominent Scottish location.

Chris explains:

“I was delighted to offer this experience to support Carers Trust Scotland as my family has a long association with the charity. This picture is the latest in a series of spectacular crowd murals I’ve done and it will be my greatest yet. For the auction winners it will be a unique and surreal experience to see themselves playing a pivotal role at such a historically significant event.”

The auction prize will be one of several at the inaugural rugby quiz in a partnership with Carers Trust Scotland and Glasgow Warriors. The event is expected to attract a mix of rugby fans and work colleagues who are keen to show off their sporting knowledge while raising funds for Carers Trust Scotland. Glasgow Warriors already have a team lined up, with more teams expected to join them over the next few weeks.

Yvonne Hughes, Senior Fundraising Manager for Carers Trust Scotland, said:

“It’s great to be working in partnership with Glasgow Warriors, who have worked really hard to make this event happen, in the middle of their season. Along with the chance to win the quiz itself, one of the highlights of the night will no doubt be the auction prize on offer from Chris Rutterford. We’ve had initial interest from sports clubs who would like the opportunity to have their team included in Battle of Bannockburn. However, this prize will appeal to everyone - families, groups of friends, work colleagues - it’s open to the imagination!”

“There are still spaces available for teams of five to join the quiz. Those who can’t make it along but would like to place a bid for the auction prize can do so by emailing by Monday 24 March.”

Glasgow Warriors managing director Nathan Bombrys said:

“We’re all really looking forward to the quiz later this month. Carers Trust Scotland provides comprehensive carers support services throughout the country and we are delighted to be supporting them.

“This will be a fun evening at Scotstoun Stadium, with a number of our players getting involved to help raise as much money as possible for this great cause.”

The cost to enter a team of five is £175. This includes dinner, a Q&A with the players and an opportunity to meet some of the players in their impressive Club Deck at the stadium. For more info or to make a booking contact Yvonne Hughes on 0300 123 2008.
