Swansea Carers Centre first in Wales to achieve Excellence for Carers

This Carers Week unpaid carers and staff celebrate achieving the first quality mark for local carer organisations in Wales.

On receiving the Carers Trust Excellence for Carers Award, Ifor Glyn, Chief Executive at Swansea Carers Centre shared:

“Being recognised for the work we do day-to-day with unpaid carers across Swansea is a source of real pride to me.

“Our team here help carers of all ages to live their best lives – whether that’s young adult carers getting a chance for a break or older carers having the opportunity to catch up over a ‘paned’.

“We’re also here for carers at some of the toughest times in their caring journey, ensuring they’re accessing their rights and entitlements; supporting them when a their cared-for is in hospital; and connecting them to the services they need right across the city.

“By working constructively with Swansea Council, our local health board and the network of third sector organisations around us, we wrap around unpaid carers to ensure they too are being cared for. We’re delighted to be celebrating this award with the people who matter.”

Unpaid carers supported by Swansea Carers Centre marked the charity’s ‘Excellence for Carers’ award at a party in their new centre on Mansel Street during Carers Week.

Joining them was Kate Cubbage, Carers Trust Director of Wales, who commented:

“Ensuring every unpaid carer in Wales has access to a high-quality local carer organisation is central to Carers Trust’s mission. Local carers centres are at the heart of their communities and are best placed to provide the holistic support carers need.

“We have exceptional local carer organisations across Wales, reaching more than 100,000 unpaid carers each year. It gives me great pleasure to see the first of these achieve the Carers Trust Excellence for Carers award, paving the way for others to have their achievements recognised by this national standard.”

Canolfan Gofalwyr Abertawe y cyntaf yng Nghymru i ennill Rhagoriaeth i Ofalwyr

Yr Wythnos Gofalwyr hon mae gofalwyr di-dâl a staff yn dathlu cyflawni'r marc ansawdd cyntaf i sefydliadau gofalwyr lleol yng Nghymru.

Wrth dderbyn Gwobr Rhagoriaeth i Ofalwyr yr Ymddiriedolaeth Gofalwyr, rhannodd Ifor Glyn, Prif Weithredwr Canolfan Gofalwyr Abertawe:

"Mae cael cydnabyddiaeth am y gwaith rydyn ni'n ei wneud o ddydd i ddydd gyda gofalwyr di-dâl ledled Abertawe yn destun balchder go iawn i mi.

"Mae ein tîm yma yn helpu gofalwyr o bob oed i fyw eu bywydau gorau – boed hynny'n oedolion ifanc sy’n ofalwyr yn cael cyfle i gael seibiant neu ofalwyr hŷn yn cael y cyfle i ddal i fyny dros baned.

"Rydyn ni hefyd yma i ofalwyr ar rai o'r adegau anoddaf yn eu taith gofalu, gan sicrhau eu bod yn cael mynediad at eu hawliau; eu cefnogi pan fydd y person mae nhw’n gofalu amdanynt yn yr ysbyty; a'u cysylltu â'r gwasanaethau sydd eu hangen arnynt ar draws y ddinas.

"Trwy weithio'n adeiladol gyda Chyngor Abertawe, ein bwrdd iechyd lleol a'r rhwydwaith o sefydliadau trydydd sector o'n cwmpas, rydym yn lapio gofalwyr di-dâl i sicrhau eu bod nhw hefyd yn cael gofal. Rydym yn falch iawn o fod yn dathlu'r wobr hon gyda'r bobl sy'n bwysig."

Nododd gofalwyr di-dâl gyda chefnogaeth Canolfan Gofalwyr Abertawe wobr 'Rhagoriaeth i Ofalwyr' yr elusen mewn parti yn eu canolfan newydd ar Stryd Mansel yn ystod Wythnos Gofalwyr.

Yn ymuno â nhw roedd Kate Cubbage, Cyfarwyddwr Ymddiriedolaeth Gofalwyr Cymru, a ddywedodd:

"Mae sicrhau bod gan bob gofalwr di-dâl yng Nghymru fynediad at sefydliad gofalwyr lleol o ansawdd uchel yn ganolog i genhadaeth yr Ymddiriedolaeth Gofalwyr. Mae canolfannau gofalwyr lleol wrth galon eu cymunedau ac maent yn y sefyllfa orau i ddarparu'r cymorth cyfannol sydd ei angen ar ofalwyr.

"Mae gennym sefydliadau gofalwyr lleol eithriadol ledled Cymru, sy'n cyrraedd mwy na 100,000 o ofalwyr di-dâl bob blwyddyn. Mae'n bleser mawr i mi weld y cyntaf o'r rhain yn cyflawni gwobr Rhagoriaeth i Ofalwyr yr Ymddiriedolaeth Gofalwyr, gan baratoi'r ffordd i eraill gael eu cydnabod gan y safon genedlaethol hon."
