Energy price cap rise is another blow for unpaid carers, Carers Trust warns

Commenting on the energy price cap rise of more than £100 a year, Carers Trust’s Policy and Public Affairs Manager, Ramzi Suleiman, said:

“Today’s announcement that the energy price cap will rise by nearly £10 a month from April is yet another blow for carer finances. Many are already struggling to make ends meet. They often use more energy than a typical household because they have to keep essential medical equipment running and make sure the house is warm, even in the Spring months. This increase could send some carers over the edge.

“People on Carer’s Allowance have been cut out of support from the Warm Home Discount scheme. That must change to stop carers, who are often on a fixed or low income, from missing out. Carers can ill afford the 6.4% increase in energy prices considering Carer’s Allowance was raised by just 1.7% back in October. The UK Government must do more to protect and support carers.”
