Meet Ffion: A Young Carer from Wrexham and the New Welsh Youth Parliament Member Championing Change

Ffion Haf Scott, a young carer from Wrexham, introduces herself and her ambitions for the next Welsh Youth Parliament term
I’m Ffion and I’m a young carer from Wrexham. I’m also the new Welsh Youth Parliament for Carers Trust Wales, which is a partner organisation of the Welsh Youth Parliament.
I stood to be the young carer Welsh Youth Parliament Member because I believe that all young carers should be heard, understood and supported always. I’m already an active member of Carers Trust Wales’ Youth Council and volunteer as a peer mentor and supporter with my local young carers’ service, WCD Young Carers.
But I know that for young carers in Wales to have the support they need completely, effortlessly and all of the time, there are a lot of changes that need to be made.
I would like to help in being one of many strong voices that make an effort to tackle and take on the challenges and discussions that will enable us to make those big changes.
My priorities as Welsh Youth Parliament Member are:
- Securing additional support for young and adult carers across Wales
- Campaigning for additional mental health support and resources
- Making sure there is more stable funding for charities and non-profit organisations who support young people in Wales
My goal is always to help, to make a difference and to stand strong and tall for what I believe in. I would like to give volume to the opinions that may not always be heard and even still the opinions that are already loud.
I’m looking forward to making a positive difference for young carers across Wales, amplifying the voices of the young carers on our Youth Council and making real changes for young people in Wales through the Welsh Youth Parliament.
I’m honoured to have the opportunity to be the Welsh Youth Parliament Member with Carers Trust Wales.
