CQC State of Care report shows pressure on parent carers will only increase, Carers Trust warns
The Care Quality Commission has published its annual State of Care report, warning many children and young people aren't getting the care they need. Responding, Carers Trust's Director of Policy and Public Affairs, Dominic Carter, said:
"Local carer organisations constantly tell us about the everyday impact of the challenges this report lays out for unpaid carers, including the hundreds of thousands of parent carers facing mounting pressures every year. Not only do they struggle to access support for their children, but state funded support for their own needs and rights is too often lacking. We know that if children and young people don’t get the healthcare they require now, the caring demands and impact on parents, family and friends will only grow as they get older and reach adulthood.
“There are six million carers in the UK, plugging the gaps left by our struggling health and social care system. The local carer organisations they rely on for support are fighting to keep up with demand as local authorities struggle to maintain their budgets. It’s vital that the Government recognises the contribution carers are making in its 10-year plans for the NHS and social care.”
