Carers must be included in reform of Care Quality Commission following critical Dash review
Dr Penny Dash’s critical review of the Care Quality Commission, the regulator for health and social care, has been released. Responding, Carers Trust’s Director of Policy & Public Affairs, Dominic Carter, said:
“Carers Trust welcomes this review of the Care Quality Commission, which echoes many of the issues raised to us by our network of carer services."
"Without an effective regulator, even more pressure is being heaped on the shoulders of the UK’s already struggling carers."
"It is absolutely vital that carers and the services that support them can have full confidence in the CQC’s approach."
“In its reforms, the Government and CQC must listen to the concerns of local carer services and carers themselves to ensure the system work for them."
"Any new regulatory approach should have as its goal a social care system that responds to carers’ needs and those they look after."
"The CQC’s assessments of local authorities currently prioritise carers and it is crucial this is not lost in any new system.”
