Unpaid carers are being pushed to the limit, new ADASS survey finds
Responding to the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) Spring Survey of adult social care directors in England, Carers Trust’s CEO, Kirsty McHugh, said:
“This important report shows how pressures on social care and local government are also pushing unpaid carers to their limits."
Carers are being left to pick up the pieces of an underfunded system by looking after friends and family at home."
"The new Government’s ambition for a National Care Service is welcome, but action is needed right now to ease some of those pressures."
"Increased support for unpaid carers is a vital part of that, with 88% of directors reporting unpaid carers had an increased level of need in the past 12 months."
“The report echoes our research showing burnout as the number one reason why carers have faced breakdown in the past year."
"This clearly demonstrates that funding is desperately needed for respite breaks and the local carer organisations who provide so much vital advice and support."
"The new Government need to commit to a funded national carers strategy to ensure carers can get the support they need.”
