Carers Trust runners triumph at London Marathon, raising thousands of pounds to support unpaid carers
Five courageous runners raising funds for Carers Trust have all crossed the finish line of this year’s TCS London Marathon, cheered on by boisterous crowds right around the capital.
The group joined 50,000 other runners, setting off from Greenwich Park on Sunday morning. They braved a stiff spring breeze and a gruelling 26.2 mile course before celebrating their success with supporters at The Mall.
Each had chosen Carers Trust as their chosen charity, raising thousands of pounds to help Carers Trust’s work supporting unpaid carers struggling to cope with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend.
Among them were two runners from The Rank Group Plc, a supporter of Carers Trust for more than a decade. Flora had been wanting to take on the London Marathon challenge for many years and jumped at the chance to run for Carers Trust. Fellow Rank employee, Alexandra, who has been running for just two years, also joined in the race.
Taking part in her second London Marathon for Carers Trust was former carer Louise, who this year was joined on the capital’s streets by her son, Tom. She said:
“When I got the chance to run the London marathon for this brilliant charity, I jumped at it. It's an invaluable organisation and I'm so proud to be supporting other unpaid carers through Carers Trust.”
Also joining the race was Sarah, running the Marathon in honour of her Dad who she cared for before his death from the cancer Mesothelioma in 2022.
It was also a proud day for Isobel, a former young carer who had long dreamed of taking on the Marathon.
All the charity’s runners were encouraged on their way by Carers Trust supporters and staff, some of whom formed a cheer squad at South Quay to give the runners a welcome boost.
