Princess Royal helps Carers Trust raise £120,000 for UK carers at Ascot Racecourse fundraiser

Carers Trust has raised more than £120,000 for its work supporting unpaid carers right across the UK.

The money was raised following a very successful private lunch and auction at Ascot Racecourse on Friday 10 May.

The lunch was attended by HRH The Princess Royal who spoke about her support and tireless work for Carers Trust, extending back over thirty years when The Princess Royal started the original charity, The Princess Royal Trust for Carers. The Princess Royal also presented a trophy to the winner of the Carers Trust Handicap Stakes that was run in the afternoon.

Guests at the private lunch were able to bid in a live auction for some incredible prizes, all of which had been generously donated by private individuals, companies and organisations. Prizes included: a tour of Jackdaws Castle; an overnight stay for two at the Jockey Club Rooms in Newmarket with a tour that included a visit to William Haggas’ yard; and a pair of tickets to the sold out England-Australia Ashes test match at Lord’s in August.

Carers Trust was also delighted to welcome to its lunch former champion jockey, John Francome, and the bestselling author Felix Francis. Felix had very generously donated one of the auction prizes – the chance to name one of the characters in his next novel written under the Dick Francis pseudonym.

Reflecting on a very special day, Carers Trusts’s CEO, Giles Meyer, said:

“So many people worked to make our day at Ascot such a great success. I would especially like to thank the committee, led by Mrs Christine St George, which oversaw all the planning for the day, The Trustees of Ascot Racecourse and all our sponsors and everyone who donated prizes. And our sincere thanks, as always, to our President, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal who works tirelessly to champion and promote our work to support carers in the UK.”
