Stars join Carers Trust fundraiser for a special celebration of Christmas music and readings

Carers Trust was thrilled to be joined for its annual Christmas carol concert last night by acclaimed actor Greg Wise, much-loved broadcaster and Strictly Come Dancing presenter Claudia Winkleman and distinguished crime writer, Felix Francis.

After being forced by the pandemic to move last year’s concert online, we were especially pleased to be able to gather once again among the beautiful surroundings of St George’s Church in London’s Hanover Square.

Greg Wise, Claudia Winkleman and Felix Francis delighted our concert guests with three wonderful Christmas-themed readings, each delivered with a seasonal dollop of festive frivolity and cheer.

And no carol concert would be complete, of course, without some uplifting Christmas music. So it was wonderful to welcome back once more our great friends at the brilliant City of London Choir, singing under the expert baton of their charismatic director of music, Hilary Davan Wetton.

Adding a further sprinkling of Christmas glitter to the occasion, the choir was joined by the award-winning classical soprano, Margaret Keys, and King’s College Cambridge chorister and organ scholar, Richard Gowers.

Carers Trust holds its annual concert as a fundraiser to help support its work for unpaid carers right across the UK. That support has never been more needed than this year, with many unpaid carers having to take on even more caring responsibilities than before due to lockdowns and the closure of many local care services and visits.

The concert is made possible thanks to the incredibly generous sponsorship of Idiliq Resorts and Hotels. Carers Trust would like to offer its sincere thanks to Idiliq Resorts and Hotels, as well as this year’s star readers, The City of London Choir and Hilary Davan Wetton, Richard Gowers and Margaret Keys, the event committee and all those who donated a prize to the accompanying raffle and auction.
