A guide to getting into work for young adult carers
This is a guide for young adult carers in England who are looking for work for the first time, have been out of work for a while or are in work but looking for a new job.
The guide gives you advice on:
- Choosing the right job
- Your job search
- The application process
- Interview tips
- Balancing work and caring
- Managing at work
- Where to get support and information if you are a young adult carer
Finding and staying in employment
The guide was written following a consultation event with 22 young adult carers from across The Carers Trust Network, their support workers and four employers.
The content is based on what these young adult carers told us were the barriers they face in finding and staying in employment and their solutions. The guide is aimed at young adult carers but carers of any age may find it helpful, particularly if you are looking for work for the first time, have been out of work for a while, or if you are in work but looking for a new job.
Although most of the information will be useful wherever you live in the UK some of the sources of help and advice only apply if you live in England.
