"The Rugby office is located in a Victorian terraced house around 5-10 minutes walk from the railway station, and around 5 minutes from the town centre. Rugby is home to Rugby School immortalised in Tom Brown's 'School days', and where rugby football is said to have been invented.

"The building currently houses the CEL office on the ground floor, with finance on the first floor, and a meeting room and storage on the second floor. The staff group is small (currently 7 when we are fully stocked), but we work hard to make the office as friendly, supportive and effective as we can.

"We have an al fresco dining area which has hosted lunches and a now infamous Britain's Best Breakfast BBQ. We have office social dinners, the occasional team lunch, lots of cake and chocolate, and as many laughs as we can manage to get us through the week, (or is it hysteria!)."

"I joined the Carers Trust in August 2015 after working eight and a half years for another UK charity. I had the opportunity to meet with some of the staff before my official start date which was a great way to ease some of the natural anxieties that you may have when starting a new role.

"The Wales team were so welcoming and on my first day we went out for lunch which was really nice. I have had a great induction period getting to know the main priorities associated with my role as well as meeting some of the wider teams by attending the Carers Trust Staff Away Day.

"I continue to learn and enjoy the role. Two work colleagues in the same week actually said 'it seems like you have always been here' which I took as a compliment.

"The office is situated on the outskirts of the city centre which is great for many different reasons. Whether you are travelling by car, bus or train the office is easy to get to and find, you also have the abundance of shops, restaurants and Cardiff Castle so something for everyone.

"The office itself has seen some changes over the months since I joined. We have now moved into one work space area, have new desks and it's recently been decorated throughout. We had the pleasure of two wonderful volunteers from Mecca Cwmbran via the Rank Group Partnership who very kindly painted the office for us.

"The recent changes to the office also now means we have our own meeting room which will be great for future catch ups and any meetings we wish to hold. The Wales Team really is a 'Team' and the office is a great working environment."


"The Glasgow office is in a really great location, 10 minutes' walk from the city railway stations and with good bus and train links from other parts of Glasgow, as well as plenty of car parking spaces. There are lots of good choices for lunch in the local area too, and for the occasional sunny day there's outdoor space to eat.

"The whole office is open plan so it's really sociable, but there are plenty of meeting rooms and spaces for a bit of quiet time if you need to get a project finished, as well as hot desks if you want a change of perspective.

"Also as the office is in a business park alongside a range of other businesses, we've been able to make good contacts with designers, charities and other suppliers who have supported our events."

Home based staff

Carers Trust's home-based staff make up approximately 40% of the workforce.

In a recent discussion of the benefits of home working staff said they really valued the extra free time they had as a result of not travelling, the savings on fares, the opportunity to work quietly on pieces of work that needed concentration without too many interruptions and the flexibility.

With so many staff being home-based Carers Trust works hard to ensure good communications are maintained. 

Some teams have weekly catch up calls, again by Skype and some make a point of having a chat about things that are not related to work on at least a weekly basis. There are also informal networks such as the yammer Carers Trust book group which are open to all staff.

The health and safety of home-based staff is protected through the home working policy, the workstation and home office risk assessments and the hazard inspections that home workers are encouraged to carry out on a regular basis.
