Support young carers this Christmas, and throughout the year!

Young carer Brooke, who cares for her brother, pictured alongside her father

Brooke, a 13-year-old young carer from Scotland, said signing up to her local carer centre was “the best decision of her life”. In just one year, Brooke went from suffering from anxiety and being bullied at school to “relaxing more and more and just becoming a much happier person”.

We work tirelessly to improve the lives of young carers like Brooke and to give them the support they need.

We do this by working with the young carer services in the Carers Trust network to make sure young carers are able to get a break from their caring responsibilities. This gives them an invaluable opportunity to connect with other young carers, have fun and share experiences.

Through our local young carer services they are also able to access grants for things they may not otherwise be able to afford, like laptops, courses or driving lessons for older young carers.

And we lobby politicians at a national and local level. We do this to make decision-makers more aware of young carers, the incredible challenges they face juggling their schoolwork with their caring role, and their need for greater support so they can live fulfilled lives alongside their caring role.

Getting support made all the difference to Brooke, she told us “ I could be myself and no one could judge me because all the other young people there are going through similar experiences”.
