Jake is 42 and had been caring for his parents who were in their late 80’s for 15 years, having given up his career to do so.

Due to their arthritis, lung conditions and increasingly age related frailty, his parents were housebound and very much reliant on Jake for all of their needs. After some advocacy support from his local Network Partner, the family were awarded 90 mins paid replacement care per day. Having been isolated from friends due to his full time caring role, Jake had no idea what he would do for these periods of time.

After a series of conversations with his Carer Support Worker, Jake was reminded of his past passion for mountain biking. His Carers Funds award for £200 bought a mountain bike which helped him ‘feel the wind and feel free’ and also made his multiple trips to the pharmacy in the local town that bit easier.
