Bernardine's story

Bernardine cares for her son Jacob who has Autism and Diabetes. Bernardine provides a great deal of care for Jacob as well as managing his challenging behaviour.

This can be very stressful at times and has had a detrimental effect on Bernardine’s physical and mental health; she has high blood pressure and anxiety.

When her fridge broke down, Carers Trust was able to give her a grant of £300 towards the cost of a new fridge.

This will ease some of the stress of her caring role as she can keep Jacob’s insulin at the right temperature and keep food fresh and safe to eat.

“She just wants the best for her family and puts herself at the bottom of the list, like many carers.”
