Carer Money Matters is a Carers Trust programme funded by four Gas Distribution Networks and delivered by 23 Carers Trust Network Partners (Network Partners are local carer organisations that are part of the Carers Trust network of local carer organisations).
Many carers are experiencing real financial difficulties because of their caring responsibilities. This is often due to having to give up paid work, or significantly reduce their paid working hours, so they can care for a family member at home.
And sometimes difficulties arise unexpectedly, like when expensive adaptations need to be made at home for the person being cared for. These pressures have been made worse in recent years due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and higher energy bills.
Whatever the cause, many exhausted carers drift into financial difficulties and then lack the time and energy to address the problem. This is where Carer Money Matters can help. It is currently delivering services in 23 areas across England, Scotland and Wales.
Each of these services is designing support and information that is most relevant to carers in that area. Services not only understand the specific financial needs carers typically have, but also work to address them in the most practical way.
This can include working in partnership with specialist local services to deliver the support carers really need.
