APPG on Young Carers and Young Adult Carers - Inquiry into barriers faced by young adult carers

The APPG for Young Carers and Young Adult Carers has launched its' latest inquiry. This inquiry follows on the landmark inquiry into life opportunities for young carers in the last Parliament.

It will be examining how we can remove the barriers to higher education, employment and training for young adult carers.

The inquiry will consider:

  • Further insights into the barriers young carers/young adult carers face in accessing higher education, training and employment
  • What colleges, universities, training providers and employers can be doing to help remove some of these barriers
  • The role of the voluntary sector, local authorities and devolved bodies (e.g. Combined County Authorities) in improving employment opportunities for young adult carers
  • What the UK Government needs to do in order to ensure that its Youth Guarantee aspirations can be realised in relation to young carers and young adult carers

The inquiry is being led by APPG chair, Chris Vince MP and APPG Vice-Chair, Alison Bennett MP and three young adult carers. They are being supported by a group of 14 young adult carer youth advisors from across the country.
