Carers Trust's statement on Trans inclusion

Like many others, we have been concerned by the implications of the Supreme Court ruling and some of the discourse which has followed it.  At Carers Trust, we are committed to providing services through our UK network of local carer organisations which are fully inclusive of the trans community.

Local carer organisations provide services the length of breadth of Britain, serving the needs of over 1 million unpaid carers. Becoming a carer can happen to anyone, regardless of sex, gender, age or any other characteristic.

We support children who are carers at the age of 5 and people who are carers at the age of 90.  We support parent carers, student carers, working carers and carers who themselves have disabilities and health conditions.

Data from our network of local carer organisations tells us that there is progress being made in reaching under-represented carers, but there is still more work to do.

Love and compassion sit at the heart of our services. Being a carer can be hard and many people need empathy and emotional support as well as access to services, be that counselling, benefits advice or respite.

We will not make anyone’s caring role any harder by putting up barriers to accessing the support they need, and we will continue to work to make our services accessible and inclusive.

As we move forward, we will work closely with our network of local carer organisations to ensure they are supported with advice and information in this space. We will also ensure that our partners, including Government, are aware of our commitment to trans-inclusive activity.
