Hi everyone I am new to this forum, and found out about it while looking for a question about carers allowance. I get c a for my son I work very part time and earn below the allowed amount, I have been asked to work more this month which will take me over my limit can you do this and declare it or does it affect your allowance and you have to claim again. do you know how many times you can do this as I may have the opportunity to do it again. Thanks fiona Smile emoticon

Hello. I wonder whether anyone else has experienced this frustrating problem, and if so what have you done about it?I have just been given an annual pay rise which has pushed my earnings to just above the cut off threshold you are allowed to earn and still receive CA.
So for a small increase in wages I now lose my CA.
I feel like its not worth me working at all as I lose out.
Anyone out there experienced this?

If i were you i would think long and hard about doing the extra work this month. Only because you may be storing up a whole lot of hassle for yourself. They will probably take your carers allowance off you for doing the extra work!! If you do the work then you may have to go through the hassle of filling in all the carers allowance forms again. If i were you i wouldnt do the extra work. I dont know your personal financial situation though. Maybe it might be worth giving them a call and explaining your situation? but dont hold your breath!! I think if you contact dept work and pensions and tell them what's what, you probably won't have to fill out forms again. They should make a note of it all on their system and work out £££ accordingly. But then again, you never know!

Thank you for your replies it is so frustrating as the shifts are there for me to work and I enjoy work but it is hard when the carers allowance is there for me and obviously it is a nice allowance.
I will call the dept and see as I dont want to have to fill in the forms again and have to apply again. Smile emoticon if it is only for one month.
Thansk for replying

Hi Fiona, I just wouldn't risk earning too much, I've just been told that for possibly earning about a pound too much a week that I have to pay back almost £1500 of carers from a short term contract two years ago. Ironically I was working for the government, what a waste of my time and added stress on top of my caring role, just because we are trying to keep our heads above water financially with a mortgage to pay and at the time a daughter at uni trying to survive on a student loan of £4000 which didn't even cover her rent. cherry, i have had the same problem here only with tax credits (god how i wish we had never claimed). Despite numourous phone calls on telling them that certain circumstances had changed and them telling us that our payments would stay the same, they have now stung us with a £2000 overpayment that we have somehow got to struggle to pay back. I am VERY VERY wary of the benfits system now and i would urge anyone to look really closely before claiming anything. Crying emoticon Crying emoticon Cursing emoticon

as if we dont have enough to deal with through caring for our disabled daughter, looking after our teenage daughter and putting our son through university. Angry emoticon Angry emoticon
