Low rate DLA mobility

I am sitting here waiting for the garage to ring me as the car is in for it's MOT and a service.

When I took the car in this morning I mentioned that should it need too much done on it I will have to consider in getting rid of it and I am dreading that as I have an autistic son. The receptionist asked if I was getting Mobility Allowance for him and I said he gets the low rate and you need the high rate to qualify for the mobility schemes. She said so that means you have to pay for all the up keep of the car which I confirmed to be the case.

So here I am sitting waiting for the phone call from the garage and day dreaming would ain't it be lovely if they decided to keep my car road worthy at a low cost price so I can continue to get my son out and also continue with the volutary work which I do.

Oh I have done less than 4000 miles this last year so shows I don't use it unless it needs to be used. I won't be alone in lowering the milage on their cars either with the increasing costs of running the things.

Oh I am day dreaming again they could also supply a years supply of diseal too,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, phone has not rang you so am still day dreaming............... when the phone does ring I know I shall be woken up from my day dreaming

.
Just picked up a message to say the garage had rang me so rang them back. The car is out on a test run and the mechanic has taken the job sheet with him but have been told that it has failed it's MOT on a list of points.

Why am I dreading this? I know it is just a car and I am a firm believer every thing happens for a reason and there is always something better around the corner just sometimes you have to go through ups and downs to get there first. But I am dreading the thought of being trapped in the house as the car makes life a lot easier for me as the carer when getting my son out of the house.

A couple of years back we found out a way to ease the burdens which we faced in getting him into the car and that was the invention of the portable DVD. He nows goes almost anywhere I need to go when he can take his DVD along with a suit case load of DVD's with him.... where is my guardian angel when I need him/her?

He will use public transport but only when on his terms. A lot of places we do go to we can be there within five to ten minutes in the car but on the bus or metro could take up to an hour to get there........................................ oh well back to the drawing board and be in preperations for hearing the worst...... us carers are use to being kicked in the teeth when things are going haywire!

Are you sure he wouldn't qualify for higher rate ie is he aware of danger and would he be safe walking alone outdoors?
Have a look at the following link to the info on the National Autistic Society's website:-
www.nas.org.uk
For the severe mental impairment route he must get the higher rate of care but the virtually unable to walk route is just as valid if the Autism affects their progress.
I was advised to observe closely how my son walked and I was amazed when I did how odd it was - I am so used to it that I don't notice! I filled the forms in in great detail about it and he has the higher rate now.
You don't get much help so I am always determined to get the best rates of benefit I can! Smile emoticon
