I wondered if anyone out there knew that you can get your home insulated, lagged and cavity wall insulating done for free. We moved house 2 years ago to give our daughter a couple of rooms to try and make her a bit more independant. Anyway one day the phone rang and it was an insulating company. They asked if we were interested in having the work done which we were as the house had virtually nothing done in that area. I was then asked if anyone in the house was getting benefits and when I told them our daughter was on Dis.Liv.Allowance they told us we could have it done free. I laughed because I didnt believe them but it was true. Six weeks later they came and did it for us. So if anyone out there needs it done before the really cold weather starts then phone your council offices. The firm I had actually worked for our local council.

Sun 5 Oct 2008 16:54This is the same scheme for replacement of the central heating boiler system. If you own your own home and you have the old boiler system and your on benefits you can have it replaced for free.
I got mine done last November through the Warmseal scheme.

Sun 5 Oct 2008 17:11I had mine done about 3 yrs ago, also got a new boiler because if you have someone on high rate dla you get a bigger grant.
Now we are extending the conservatory so I said to hubby about getting it done just for that bit, but I dont know where to ask. think mine was yhrough HEES which is in wales.
Do I contact the council then? and can we have it if we already had some three years ago?

Sun 5 Oct 2008 20:09Hi Kerry, Im sure someone at your local council offices would be able to put you in touch with a company to do this for you. Give them a ring and see. Not sure if there is a limit on how many times you can do this but as the saying goes if you dont ask you dont get especially if you are a carer. We even got a phone call afterwards to ask if we were happy with the work done and if we had any complaints and also were the men courteous and polite. I was amazed. Anyway, let me know how you get on..

Re: Home isulation
Wed 8 Oct 2008 22:55I got a new boiler installed last year on the warmseal grant. I received a letter this morning from my local council to say that someone will be contacting me to do an assessment to make sure that I have all insulations to improve the energy efficiency.
My fingers are crossed as I have two houses into one and I think the other boiler for one side of the house may need replacing...... hope they will renew it for me!
Shall keep you posted
Could do with remaining wooden window frames being replaced to double glazing too...... while they are at it they could also replace my bathroom, kitchen redecorate right through and replace most of my furniture!!!!!
BANG
I have just woken up hee hee!
