Hi there sorry to hear your problems so far. Carers allowance dose depend on whether you are under pesion age if you are 65 + you can not get it i have been told but you still have to apply to get any of the other benifits that are about. I may be wrong as i am only 35 and have a long time to get to that point and it may have changed by then lol .
good luck

all i can suggest is either the benefits advisor at your local CAB, or even at the money advice service from your local authority, should be able to do a benefit check for you to ensure you are getting everything you are entitled to. you can sometimes wait for appointment, but usually it is worth the wait. Thanks Colin, yes first appointment 30 june i went in on the 10th and asked to see someone
something strikes me as not quite right with the whole lot of this Crying emoticon it seems ridiculous including having to wait this lenth of time to see an advisor... so i thought i would see if any one anywhere Big grin emoticon might know something..... i will keep on trying Yawn emoticon !

I know with carers allw your caree must receive dla. you can only bring home £95 per week wages and care for 35 hrs pw or more.

dont know how it affects pensions tho.
if youre on Income support- you get your carers but they give u less income support if u know what i mean.

the benefits system is a long and complicated process. I got my daughters benefits sorted out a while ago now but it took them weeks to sort it out. I have now been told that she is eligable for income support. I am scared to claim it for her (she cannot speak for herself very well and needs me to guide her 24 hours). They award you with one thing then take it straight out of the other hand!! Crying emoticon its confusing !!!

Hi Dave, just thought i'd add my twopennorth for what its worth. If your caree gets dla or attendance allowance and you care for them for 35hrs a week or more then its worth claiming carers allowance even if you dont get it cus there are other things you are entitled to as a carer (e.g: housing benefit & council tax benefit). If you google 'benefits calculator' there is a page where you can put in what you already receive and it calculates what else you may be entitled to. Good luck!!!!! Kath
