If the council agree it is needed why wont they fund it?
Have you gone thru your OT dept?
Is it because you're over limit financially?

Hi Kerry,

Thanks for your response. its because its too expensive, the cost is in the region of £100,000 which is nuts but they will only go to around £50,000. OT are pushing for it and agree there is nothing else to be done so i am a little stuck as to what to do. I have a meeting with my local MP on saturday to have a chat about it.

Thanks
Tina

Hi Kerry
You do not say if your home is private or local authority. Be careful if it is the latter beacuse your home if its adapted is then termed public property and if there ever came a time when the person using the adaption left or died the council could demand your home back, and you would find yourself being re housed...Val

Hi Tina.
We are having a downstairs extention done at the moment! It has taken 4 years of meetings and fighting but we have got there. The only thing is that the council is funding £40,000 and we have to find the rest! which is something like £36,000 it was the only way we could get it done. I think it is bad because its extra finance on us carers and its really needed.
We even had our house up for sale the other summer but could not find a property big enough in our budget!!
I hope you get you extention sorted out real soon aas i know the stress it can cause. Take care.
