Royal event to raise money for carers

HRH The Princess Royal, President, The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, will attend the RB Farquhar Summer Ball at Harthill Castle, Oyne, Insch, Aberdeenshire.

Founded by HRH The Princess Royal in 1991, The Princess Royal Trust for Carers currently helps almost 50,000 carers in Scotland – including 3,500 young carers – cope by giving them information, support and advice through its network of 29 carers’ centres, young carers’ services and interactive websites.

The Trust supports the unpaid carers who look after a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help. This could be because of age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.

Hosted by Forbes Shand of RB Farquhar Holdings, and sponsored by Pipeline Technique Ltd, Norson Power and Westerton Ltd, The Royal Night at the Castle takes place at Harthill Castle on 11 June.

The funds raised by the event will benefit The Trust, which is the UK’s largest provider of support services for unpaid carers.

Carers save the Scottish Government £7.6 billion a year, but they often give up jobs and pensions to look after their loved one. Caring for someone can often be a 24-hour, seven days a week job – and because the UK population is ageing, more of us are likely to become carers in the next 20 to 30 years.

The Trust’s Carers’ Centres support carers by giving them information on their rights and what benefits they are entitled to receive, training, advice, peer support and respite breaks. They help carers to feel less isolated and alone and can introduce them to other people in similar situations.

Our young carers’ services help by giving young carers’ breaks, supporting their dreams and aspirations and helping them deal with difficulties they may experience in school or at home as a result of caring for someone.

Forbes said: “I support the work of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, as unpaid carers do such great work in Scotland. The evening will be a real one-off – top-class hospitality in beautiful surroundings – and I would urge you to come along!”
