Did anybody read about this in the newspapers?
www.dailymail.co.uk
Its frightening to think that this could happen and makes me think twice about being involved with Social Services.

It is a frightening story but it's worth remembering that it's also very extreme and it's the extreme stories that become newsworthy.

I'm not under any illusions - there are some awful social workers out there, just as there are truly terrible teachers - but there are also some fantastic ones. My son's social worker only has his best interests at heart and so has my own, I can't fault them.

I read that story in the Telegraph - who on earth do they think they are? Cross SS at your peril - complain and be black-marked for life . . . .

I find that since becoming involved with SS I feel like I've sold my soul to the devil . . . . but Direct Payments are worth their weight in gold to me so I have to go along with it Angry emoticon

I coped without them for 24 years but things sadly have to move on as situations get more difficult.

They should spend their time and money getting the folk who want and need to be in residential care homes placements.

What an awful thing to happen. My god when they get it wrong they really do don't they. I feel so sorry for both of them. Lets hope the daughter and mother are reunited back home soon.

OMG I read that story and had tears in my eyes, that poor lady must have been so frightened and confused.
I would go bloody mental at anyone who tried to take my kids, and its the same thing really; a viulnerable person needing their family round them.

Yes when they get it wrong they do it in style! They should be hanging their heads in shame but you bet your sweet dandy they wont.

Did anyone see the article about the elderly lady's daughter who appeared on This Morning ( Thursday April 30 2009)?

There is more to this than first seemed. The elderly lady is a self funder in the care home and this means that she is paying the full costs of her care in the care home. There was talk that the SS had paid for some of the adjustments to the daughter's home for the elderly lady to live there. Perhaps the reason for the old lady being snatched back to the care home was the fact that she is a self funder. It now has to be investigated "that any insistance by Social Services that the elderly person foes into a Care Home is not for the financial gain of the Council". I hope we hear the outcome of that investigtion.

Lynn - you stated Cross SS at your peril...complain and be black marked for life... I can agree with you fully there I have experienced this. I even have a letter from SS stating that there is nothing wrong with my caree. The date of the letter is a few weeks after an emergency admission to hospital and about 2 weeks before heart surgery.

Prove SS wrong and they will make every member of your family's life a misery. That is what is happening to me.

I have my own views on this. If it was a council care home, they are so badly run, not just for the elderly but the "learning disability" clients. Yes and those two words cover every eventuality, no matter what the handicap all classed the same. This in itself is a disgrace. Animals are at least put into zoos with like animals. How frightening for some people to be shoved together with what they dont understand. The SS are always on at carers to put their carees away especially in this area -Derby. Mainly the homes are undersubscribed and they need people in there to employ the vast quantities of staff , who manage a NVQ but havent a clue about individuality and the needs of each client as an individual. Most of these disgusting places get five stars on a visit by powers that be. Could this be that they are at least good at pulling the wool over peoples eyes, or that the people inspecting, dont know what they are doing also. In fact I have yet to find any individual who has the slightest idea about autism in adults. I am left totally alone, no support, except when it suits them to stick their noses in because a review is required. That is what has probably what has happened in this case.
Surely an elderly woman already suffering confusion should be with the people that love and care for her. These damn SS need sacking. When people are at risk they seldom find out until it is too late.
A warning to all of you, dont let the buggers invade your privacy without a fight, and dont trust them, any of them. They all have ulterior motives, usually like keeping their well overpaid jobs, intact, at least to show they have powers to do as they want.
Mo - off my soap box, just fell off it.

I have a good social worker but i was married to one and you really didnt want to cross him, he was a total bully, and 2 of our kids turned out the same.It was a case of who he didnt like, perhaps not what was best for them.I hope he is in the minority! Sad emoticon
