Does anyone have more info on our new Minister for Care?
I cant find anything that suggests his interest for Carers, and wonder just how much insight he has? The info may be there but I cant find it!
Ivan Lewis certainly seemed a more suitable minister for us as his background was in social care and he was very knowledgeable on many subjects and issues. I am sorry he has been moved!!

Wed 8 Oct 2008 11:16Thanks for your quick answer Sam ,but it still doesnt say anything about an interest in Carer issues. I suppose we just have to wait and see for ourselves!!
Can you arrange a hosted chat for us to talk to him?
We have had some really good ones in the past and lots of queries answered!!
Even a statement to PRTC from him would be good.

Hi AllFrom wikipedia : He once appeared on the 1970s television drama series Z-Cars and can also both tap dance and juggle.
The juggling talents could be useful
And a couple of links to Phil Hopes website

Re: Phil Hope... Minister of state for Care Services.
Wed 8 Oct 2008 11:43Well Hope by name and us carers live in Hope by nature, because I am afraid that is all we have to keep us going. Words are cheap Mr Brown, lets have a Party that actually financially takes some of our worries away. I feel at breaking point at the moment. Still there is always "hope" - I dont think so, just more crap different day. This rubbish will just continue, and probably these MPs are moved because they are making too many ripples in the water on our behalf.
I personally find Browns comments an insult, coming from a man with no money worries and enough to pay somebody to care for his kids. There will always be them and us and we will always be kept in our place. He couldnt give a damn about carers, if he did he would have recognised the state we are in and done something by now to help us.
Considering the state of the country, I would not have thought he could consider having to look after all our carers if we left them at council offices. Cost a damn sight more than paying us a decent amount to take our fears of having to choose heating or food etc this winter.

Wed 8 Oct 2008 14:33Jeanette, we're looking into getting him to do a hosted chat. It's an outside chance to be honest, but let's keep our fingers crossed and see how it goes!

Wed 8 Oct 2008 14:45Thanks Sam .Stephen Ladyman spoke to us,so I cant see why Phil Hope might not ! Its worth a try anyway, and if he doesn't ,then we will know he isn't concerned about us!! His party really do need our confidence and our votes!!!!

Re: Phil Hope... Minister of state for Care Services.
Wed 8 Oct 2008 19:08I'm not quite sure why you say its an outside chance Sam. I've known Phil for 20 years both through the Voluntary Sector and as my Constituency MP - and the one thing he is, is unbelieviably helpful. I don't recall him once turning down an invitation to help out a local group/project, be it huge or a very small community one.
He responds quickly and in detail to anything I've contacted him for, and I know others feel the same.
So to recap, he's charming, helpful, personable, extrememely hard working - do you feel a BUT coming on?
He knows a little about a lot of things but nothing in detail.
I think he's only held down a real job for about 3 years and that was in Education/Youth work. He is 100% a Career Politician. He has served on a few Committees and Chaired an APPGM to do with Social Care a few years ago.Has done lots for local Carers groups/forums/disabled folks, and as long as he is very well briefed can come across as knowing what he's on about - which of course he doesn''t.
Sadly I can't see any improvements/changes on the cards . . . . Hope this helps you Jay and anyone else interested.
regards
Lynn

Re: Phil Hope... Minister of state for Care Services.
Wed 8 Oct 2008 20:29I have no desire to be cynical about politicians but Mr Hope is not likely to make any difference to our lives. This Government will almost certainly be gone by this time next year & we will have a Tory Administration in its place. I would imagine Mr Hope will just want to 'Tread Water' in the vague hope that he might just save his Parliamentary seat......Expect little & you will not be disappointed....

Wed 8 Oct 2008 20:41Thanks for that Lynn. From what you say, we stand a good chance of a hosted chat!! Please dont tell him I intend to bend his ear about my favourite topic but can promise you he wont forget it ,lol.
Graham .. I must admit I think you are probably correct ,but my motto is 'If you dont tell'em' they can say ...quite honestly..they dont know'!!
