Tax credits

Hi everyone, My second time on a discussion board. Do you know that the tax credit people do not think that carers work? Even though we do the same [ or more usually] than some agency carers? I rang them today and they told me that we are not classed as workers. Even if you are claiming carers allowance and getting a national insurance credit and supposed to be working at least 35 hours a week to claim c.a. they do not recognise you as working but someone else doing your job is. That seems so unfair to me. How does anyone else feel about it? Is it just another body of people who do not recognise what carers do.? Sofie xxx

Re: Tax credits
Mon 14 Jul 2008 18:09hi sofie
I tell ya what winds me up:
ya know when you fill those forms in on line for insurance/holidays/ etc etc
they give you a drop down list of what you do for a living, and itll say maybe
employed
unemplyed
student and so on
so you click on employed. then you get another list of particular jobs, and one will say 'care' so you click on this and itll say type in your job title so you type in informal carer and it comes up 'unknown' or 'error'
even if you just type in 'carer' the same thing happens.why is this?
ill tell you why...
COS WE DONT CHUFFING EXIST, THATS WHY.

Mon 14 Jul 2008 21:33Hi Kerry and Loopy, You are right we are not really valued by some people, it is as if we are invisible and do not exist[ only to the people we care for ] I have been near to exhaustion at times and the stress is sometimes too much to take but I carry on because I know that the person I care for appreciates me and cannot cope without me so it is all worth while.Loopy, my dinner ladies made me eat parsley sauce when I was a child and I could not stand it for years. You are doing two great jobs and it cannot be easy. People need to register the fact that carers do work and work very hard with no proper breaks, time off or holidays sometimes. Who would do a job with those terms and conditions? No one I bet. This is a seven days a week job and its about time we were recognised for it. Sadly I do not think we are by some people. Sofie xxx

Rang the council this morning and the phone rang and rang and rang and rang and rang and rang and kept saying that the phones were busy and that I would get my call answered as soon as someone became available.
I ended up emailing them but still no answer and if my local council services email system is anything to go by I know I won't get a reply but going to give them until Wednesday morning if no reply shall just keep on the phone until I get sorted.
other wise I shall just cancel my direct debit at the bank and shall pay the amount which I have been doing so at the post office until they can get this sorted out.
I am a single parent and a carers allowance and topped up with income support struggling to get my daughter through uni so she can have a better life and my other son has only been able to find part time work. Some weeks he earns less than he would on job seekers allowance but he still gives me out the money to pay for his council tax which he has been set to pay along with the interest on my morgage which previously got it paid. I would ain't care my monthly morgage is just over a weeks rent had I been renting I would of got most of it paid along with repairs and have my home kept up to a livable standard.
Only thing is I would not be living in the hosue which is ideal for my son's disability.
Oh well win some and you loose some as they say but I keep wondering why it is that what goes around comes around.
What did I do?
