does anyone know why carers allowance is deducted from the income support? carers dont get enough as it is. all the work they do,plus you can only get carers for working over 35 hours,so un fair the least the goverment can do is not deduct it just as a little extra help.

Re: why is carers allowance is taken from income support
Fri 3 Jul 2009 21:09Something I would like to know why too.
The most likely reason they will say is what is said when you get the letter working out how much your entitled to which says The government says you need this amount to live on........... which really hisses me off as we have to provide 35 hours of care to be entitled to carers allowance..... next question is how can the government get away with paying carers so little money for so many hours yet an employer would be hung drawn and quatered if they paid an employee that amount of money for those amount of hours......
Even someone on job seekers allowance does not have to prove that they have been looking for work for 35 hours per week to be entitled to jobseekers allowance. All they have to say is that they have looked at the jobs section in the local paper and that would be sufficient.
Yet most of us carers have to provide 24/7 care in most cases

Fri 3 Jul 2009 23:10Yes I agree Tricia, and when you get to 60,have a pension, you say goodbye to everything. And yes give 24/7 care. No life, no money.
Good that I enjoy living, and can make the best of things.
Get what you can while you can.
Private Pensions, cash them in,you might get a little pension credit then.
