It saddens me when I hear of cases like this.
As it allows you to lose confidence in the people who are meant to be there to help you and your mum.
Ask about their complaint policy procedures and carry them out. It will add extra to your caring role but what it will do it highlight these issues to the authorities even in private care homes they have rules and regulations which by law they have to be abide by.
If you have any problems in accessing the complaints policy contact your local MP requesting support on these issues. Bad publicity is what is needed to bring up these care homes up to a high standard of care

Re: money and care homes
Sat 4 Oct 2008 09:07this is exactly why i have chose to care for my daughter at home. I dont think i could contemplate her going to a residential care home because in my opinion no one can look after her the way that me and hubby do. There are a few things that she can do for herself but mostly its me and hubby that have to help her. She cannot deal with her personal care herself and wouldnt know how to run a bath and wash her hair and her body. I have known her go to respite for a few nights and come home looking like her teeth have not been cleaned for a few days.
