I saw an advertisement for Disneyland in Paris on Monday.
THE SPEAKER SAID 'SANTA IS HAVING A HOLIDAY AT DISNEYLAND PARIS FOR CHIRSTMAS THIS YEAR.
It insensed me. I know children do not usually now believe in him, but the spirit is there and gives them hope. I hope children do not see this too much. It was, I think solely designed to make the kids winge to go, and that is unfair. One of the things I admited this Gov for when they got into power was the stop they put to all the rubbish about certain toys being scarce. That hipe caused a lot of distress at this time of the year and they copied the Swedish and stopped it.

Re: CHRISTMAS IS HARD ENOUGH IF YOU'VE KIDS
Tue 30 Sep 2008 02:12Was this goverment not in office last christmas when all the hype about the wii was going on? Why not try and back away from getting kids things just because their mates have got it? We as parents and grandparents are as much to blame as anybody for paying over inflated prices for things the kids don't need

Re: CHRISTMAS IS HARD ENOUGH IF YOU'VE KIDS
Tue 30 Sep 2008 09:00As my children were growing up I could not afford to keep up with the Jones and the Smiths of this world. This is where my Dad give me some very good advice and that was if I was to give my children everything they wanted designer this and designer that I would be doing them no favors. The day would arrive where they would have to buy their own things and will they be able to afford it? Very little chance that they could.
Now my eldest two have grown up and they often thank me for teaching them the value of shopping around. They see friends who are really struggling in coming to terms that they can't afford to have the designer named goods on their backs.
Also I instilled into them why make the big fat man richer when it makes you poorer!
P.S, Big fat man is a term used for the one who gets the profits at the end of the day!
Maybe this post is in bad timeing with the state of the stock markets!

Re: CHRISTMAS IS HARD ENOUGH IF YOU'VE KIDS
Tue 30 Sep 2008 09:09my kids know that we cant afford certain luxery's. They are good kids and have never moaned or whined about not getting certain things. Dont get me wrong, we have spoilt them in the past when we could afford it !!! I have also spoilt them a little too because of all the time that i spend looking after their sister. I suppose it was because i always felt guilty. This year, i have sat them down and explained to them that we are going to have a "cut price christmas" where i wont buy certain things. I have told them that i am giving them £50 each to spend in the sales on what they want. They are more than happy with this. My disabled daughter will get the same too. I think £150 for the 3 of them is more than enough. I am not having a turkey either, largely because of the price but also because i hate turkey !! I am just going to get a small cut of beef or pork. Me and hubby dont usually buy for each other. This may sound a bit "bah humbug" but i think it is realistic. I cannot and will never understand the parents that spend a thousand pounds or so on credit cards at christmas. That to me is just ridiculous!!! no wonder they get into so much debt. Christmas is about compassion and NOT spending wildly. I think that people forget that.

Re: CHRISTMAS IS HARD ENOUGH IF YOU'VE KIDS
Tue 30 Sep 2008 10:03its amazing how the adverts pop up at this time of year and i hate it.
my kids are growing up but its still hard. my eldest son wants something off everypage of the argos book and all of sports world!
while my youngest has asked for the new handwritting pen thats been advertised on tv £5.
this year i have saved with park hampers and have got high street vouchers comming at the begining of nov. if it was left to my eldest al of these would barely cover his requests
how can i get him to understand that he cant have all he wants whenever he wants,
when his mates at school get it.
hubby and i very rarely buy for each other, all we have goes on the kids. (plus b4 he was ill he was a miserable git! lol)
well thats my bit of Bah Humbug for today
And let me take this chance to wish you all a merry christmas
