hi loopy all carers are terrffic and they have better brains than most ,how many people would do what we do ? certainly not the so called brain boxed scientists they wouid'nt know where to start proving CARERS HAVE SUPER BRAINS coffee

couldnt agree more loopy, all carers have to be intelligent and extremely resourceful, else we couldnt do what we do...and on top of that we have more than our fair share of love and compassion..otherwise we couldnt function properly as carers.

I agree I feel being a carer has brought out how many skills I really do have. Eventhough. I don't have that many qualifications and have never been in paid work (did about six months in a pub before I had my last child) I believe it is through being a carer that I have gained many skills I would never of had the privilage to of discover had I not been a carer.

Should I ever find myself in the sitatuion where I am no longer a carer I hope that a decent employer recongises that my skills which I have gained are more valuable that a certificate to prove it.

I left school with no qulifications but have gained a few since mostly GCSE level. Was on my way to do an advanced course but my caring role came in the way.............. which was meant to be!

I think we have larger IQs than the majority, and I certainly would not be caring for a living ,I could do far more than that. I would reorganise all the idiots who should know what they are doing and dont. Anybody who works with carers etc should be made to do caring on their own for 6 months. As the Red Indian says "walk a mile in anothers moccasins before you judge". Maybe thats what they should have to do.

After nearly 20 years of being a carer i have to say that the qualities I most admire in other people are kindness, a sense of humour, courage and patience. (the last one being especially important when dealing with social services and anything to do with benefits).

Brains come quite a long way down the list...which is just as well as mine seems to have gone AWOL lately

Hi Lisa,
Just done 8 interviews for my diss on parent carers and each and every one said how underval;ued they fell, and how there is such a stigma attached. When in reality doing a days work would be a walk in the park for us guys! compared to doing what we do.

Fear not, dear lady, I will highlight all the points made in my dissertation and the more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards the research area of informal care, as all my mates tell me I should.
I shall shout it from the rooftops and I wil;l NEVER GIVE UP THE FIGHT FOR US CARERS!!!!!!
