having had a really hard week last week, im glad to say this week im feeling a bit more positive. My partner has suffered from depression and anxiety for a long time, but only been diagnosed in the last 2 years. He is an emotional wreck and its been hard work for us all. Last week i almost left him, i just cant stand the constant stress and anguish. Thankfully having thought long and hard i reconsidered! He is not only low, but lacks totally in understanding of how to be positive, he is also controlling. We have been together 11 years now, and i love him more than ever, but i get extrememly frustrated that i have to sit and watch someone i love so much suffer, but feeling so unable to ease the pain,

my 17 year old son suffers from depression and anxiety as wll so i can understand where you are coming from, he has good and bad days, its hard when no one can see the disability but you at home and leaves you having to cope with where many can't see anything wrong. he went to the GP's on friday, he saw a locum who told him to snap out of it, we didn't have a great weekend! Angry emoticon but hes been back this morning and seen his regular Gp so is feeling slightly more upbeat. I think its just him knowing I am here that helps but i sometimes think I want him out I can't cope.
sorry not much help except to say you are not alone.

As a carer who suffers from depression, I know the constant battle to overcome it, and for those around it must be terrible. I have nobody around so have to get on with it and try to over come it and you do because you have to . The answer is to not pamper it

I am also a carer who suffers from severe bouts of depression and thoroughly understand the battles that are faced everyday by those who suffer from it and those who care for the sufferers!

Somedays getting out of bed is a real struggle and every action can take all the energy out of you.

Mo, I am so sorry that you have no one around to help you - yes I agree you have to try and cope with it and not to pamper to it but as we all know that is easier said than done!

One suggestion I have is to study a counselling course- there are a lot available through local colleges quite cheaply - I know it may sound like a strange idea but by studying the skills that are needed for counselling it makes you examine your own problems and although it may bring up some very difficult issues, if you stick with it you are forced to deal with it and this can make a very big difference!

Good luck Mo.

And all the luck and best wishes to the carers of people with depression - you truly are shining lights dealing with people who are in places of darkness!

Thanks Anne C, it is something that I would like to do, but as a 24/7 carer have no chance to get ot at night and only have a few hours 3 days a week, which enables me to shop etc. Otherwise I would be in complete (almost) solitary confinement within my home. I never see anyone and from becoming a person who had a lot of friends and a good social life, have now had to become a virtual recluse. Hence the depression. But we carry on, have to dont we
