The Princess Royal Trust Dumfries & Galloway Carers Centre

A Carer is someone of any age, including children and young people under 18, who provide support to a member of their family or a friend who is affected by long term illness, disability, age or addiction.

YOU MAY NOT SEE YOURSELF AS A CARER? You may feel that you are simply looking after your partner, child, relative or friend. However, 1 in 6 people are Carers and many require information and support to carry out this role.

WHY DO CARERS NEED A SERVICE? Carers can experience a wide range of feelings including frustration, isolation and guilt. Access to information and support can make a huge difference to a Carer and the person they care for. It is also important for Carers to take care of themselves and all the services provided by our Carers Centre aim to promote this. Many Carers don't have time to concentrate on their own health and wellbeing and can often experience illness, stress or injury as a result. Speaking to one of our Carers Support Workers and accessing the support services available can help.

WHERE ARE WE? The Carers Centre is based in Dumfries at 2/6 Nith Street. A drop-in service is available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so there is not always the need to make an appointment. However if you do need to speak privately with a staff member, it may be best to call first. You don't need to have a specific question or problem to see us, just drop in for a chat and a cuppa!

WHAT IF I LIVE OUTSIDE DUMFRIES? The Carers Centre service is provided throughout the region and we have Carers Support Workers based in Wigtownshire, the Stewartry, upper Nithsdale and Annandale & Eskdale.

The Centre also runs an 'Eating Disorder Service' that supports Carers who are looking after someone who has an eating disorder and 'Young Carers Project' which aims to support Young Carers aged between 7 & 18 who are caring for someone, please contact us for more details.

If you are a Carer or Young Carer living in Dumfries & Galloway and would like to find out more about the services that we can offer you, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us.
